- In 1782 at the age of sixteen, John TAYLOR came to Plymouth (VT) where he made his pitch on the Black River about one mile below Plymouth Union. He worked summers clearing his land and returned each fall to Carlisle (MA), walking a distance of one hundred and fifty miles. When his log cabin was finished in 1789 his wife came on horseback bringing a baby in her arms and a small apple tree.
