- Memoir from NEHGS Memorium:
Arthur Orison TAYLOR, of Belmont Mass., elected a resident (annual) member 7 March 1917 and transferred to life membership 28 Feb. 1919, was born in Ludlow, Windsor County, VT, 28 Oct 1858, son of Rev. Ora James and Abbey Patience (TAYLOR) TAYLOR, and died in Belmont 23 July 1948.
Mr. Taylor claimed descent from Thomas TAYLOR who was an inhabitant of Salem MA, in 1637 and was a man of some prominence in Reading MA until his death in 1691, who married Elizabeth -----; through Seabred TAYLOR (1643-1714), a soldier in King Philip's War, who married Mary HARRINGTON; Thomas TAYLOR (b. 1692) of Sudbury MA; James TAYLOR, (b. 1721) of Westminster MA, who married Elizabeth DUNSTER; Joseph TAYLOR (1778-1869), who married Betsey GREEN; and Rev. Ora James TAYLOR, who married Abbey Patience TAYLOR. Through one or the other of the two TAYLOR lines he was descended from Governor Thomas DUDLEY of MA and President Henry DUNSTER of Harvard College.
He Married 3 Oct. 1883, Lucy Mitty HANNUM of Weston MA, by whom he had two sons and two daughters, Spencer Hannum and Chester Hannum (twins), Gladys Foster and Evelyn Pease. His son Spencer and daughter Gladys survive.
Mr. TAYLOR was educated at Vermont Academy and for some 20 years was a manufacturer in Boston and later on the Pacific Coast with factories in Portland OR and Berkeley, CA. An accountant, he later took up research and philanthropic work, and published a well received book "Persistent Public Problems".
He had been a member of the Society of Colonial Wars in MA and the Sons of the American Revolution and belonged to the Bunker Hill Monument Association and Governor DUDLEY Family Association.
