Note |
- She was tall, about six foot tall, and thin, and she wore long skirts. She was the youngest child. She was fun and full of life. When she did get angry she would say, "Peggy, Peg, Peg, and Johnnie, John, John, and they all met together in a fortified fort." She was very devout in her old age. She always carried her rosary. She prayed to St. Anthony. She would put a few coins in any box for St. Anthony. She was very kind to everyone, and she never had an enemy. She would read with only one eyeglass in the eyeglass frame. She was clean and neat. She worked very hard. It was hard for her to see most of her children go to America. She never saw them again. She was a great midwife. She was strong and wiry. She brought all of Anna NEVILLE's brothers and sisters, and Anna, into the world, along with many other babies. No babies ever died when she was involved. She was always reading her epistle. She prayed a lot. But she loved to dance and could dance until the end of the gathering. She smoked a clay pipe. She would ask Doll or Kit to light it, and they would smoke a little of it. She lived at Banemore as a widow. Gerald and Sheila CARROLL's house was built on the site of an old house which various relatives lived in, including her. After she died, Sally lived there until she died. She died of senile decay, according to the death certificate, although Anna said that she had a stroke (or perhaps pneumonia) on Christmas night and died five days later. She had to be watched carefully for the last several years of her life. She had been ill for one week (death certificate) and there was no doctor present. She died on a Monday evening and was waked Tuesday in the house. They took her to the church on Wednesday and buried her on Thursday. Ellen paid for the wake. One version says that she lived to be 89.
