- Chris was single. When he first came to Boston from Ireland, he lived with Anna and Jim NEVILLE. Later he lived in a room in Boston. He worked for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company for many years, as a maintenance man/janitor. He retired from there. He was very proud of working at the Hancock. Doll has his retirement plaque. Chris had tuberculosis and he was in a hospital for many months.
Chris drank a good bit. He would frequent the pubs in Boston near his room. He would come out to visit Anna and he always brought her a box of candy. Usually he would eat, have a few drinks, and fall asleep. But he always worked, paid his own way, and didn't owe anyone anything. He looked like the typical Irishman - short, stocky, brogue, red nose, and big hands. He had hoped to move to Ballyheigue when he retired, but he went home to try it, and he found that he could not live in the damp and cold. So he returned to Boston for the rest of his life.
