1899 - 1907 (7 years)

Name |
Leon Paul VOGT |
Born |
10 Sep 1899 |
Everett, Middlesex, Massachusetts, United States [4] |
- Birth date of record was 10 September 1899, but birth date on gravestone in Glenwood Cemetery shows year as 1900... likely falsified by a year since parents were married 19 April 1899. Mother would have been 4 months pregnant at date of marriage.

Note |
- I've decided that this person, a son originally listed in this database as Leon S. VOGT, son of Marcel & Ida VOGT, is the Leon P. VOGT that was buried in the family plot in Everett in 1907 at age seven (he is the first name listed on the family plot gravestone that has eight names on it). There were originally two reasons why I doubted that. I now have only one reason to doubt it, and that one has circumstantial evidence mounting against it.
The reason to doubt it that went away was the middle initial confusion. Luckily, I make reference notes in my database as to where the information about a person came from (usually), and in this particular case, the only intial evidence that Leon existed at all was from the 1900 census information that Joanne Gonsalves dug up. When I went back to review it, and compare what I wrote with what she sent to me, and compare that to some template sheets for the 1900 census that I picked up at the National Archives in Washington DC, I realized that I erred in assuming his middle initial was S. The "S" stands for "SON."
The one reason for doubt that still remains is associated with his birth date. The census info dug up lists the birth date for Leon VOGT as Sept 1899, and lists his age as 8/12. The gravestone shows a birth date of 1900 (no month or day), BUT, I now believe the gravestone to be intentionally in error, to cover up the "scandalous" fact that Ida was pregnant when they got married. They were married on 19 April 1899 (which was a Wednesday), and Leon was born in September. Their grief was evidently not great enough to cause them to forget to move the birth year to 1900 on the stone to mask the fact. Other "circumstantial" evidence is that they were married in Everett and lived in Everett and both died in Everett, but their son's birth wasn't recorded in Everett - his birth certificate was not available from the Everett city clerk's office - I have no idea where he was born. Also, a minor curiosity from the marriage certificate now becomes circumstantial evidence exhibit B: her place of residence at the time of marriage is listed as 8 Grover St. - with Marcel's parents. Her parents must have thrown her out when they found out.
