HOLY COW! That is quite the eventful 9 months... Retirement you say?? I say you're fooling yourself if
you think that's retirement ;) Just kidding. No one in this family really ever stays still for very long do
    they??

So glad to hear that despite all the challenges your spirits seem to be high and your ever
resourcefulness seems to have saved the day many times over. I can't wait to build a house one
day. Maybe I'll get some advice from you when that day comes. We are hoping it'll be within the next
two years. It sounds like you're loving Maine and that is really the best news. Even if the taxes were
atrocious, it seems to have been definitely worth it!

Alivia's birthday is July 29th (close to Nyah's) and she was born in 2013. Grandma must be keeping you
pretty updated, so I won't give you all the details, but clearly I got married! We aren't announcing it,
because we are planning a big destination wedding in a couple years after we save some cash, but
keeping a secret in this family just doesn't work ;). My husband, Tom, is in the Airforce the head of a
very top secret satellite communication system that I'm not allowed to know much about. I work for the
State of Wyoming in Highway Development as the Head Engineer's Assistant. Still doing the fitness
thing on the side but Tom and I want to try and increase our family here soon, so it was time to settle
down again. We currently have two beautiful girls and two obnoxious fur baby boys. Alivia (Livie for
short) is a very girlie, sassy yet sweet girl with the biggest personality out there. She's obsessed with
horses too so that makes Grandma Ellen very happy and she idolizes her new big sister. Nyah is 11 now
and almost as tall as me, wears all my clothes except for my shoes because her feet are two sizes bigger
than mine. She still loves all things 90's and has the dry sense of humor you see in actors like Bill
Murray. She has definitely maintained her "uniqueness" we love so much about her even in her tween
years and continues to be the easiest kid ever. Bruce Wayne our oldest pup is a GIANT golden doodle
who despite his size is barely a year and a half, obsessed with his momma, thinks he's a lap dog and a
total teddy bear. My clothing bears all the dog hair to prove how much attention he needs. Quil the
baby, is a mini golden doodle who is 8 months old, not very bright but still manages to steal absolutely
every bone/treat from his much bigger brother. He makes us laugh every day with his antics in
    instigating his brother.

In short we are very blessed at the moment and doing well. The quarantine hasn't affected us much
(yet) as we are kind of home bodies anyway. The toilet paper situation was a bit shocking, but we
rationed and all is well. My work hasn't let us go home yet as we are considered "essential personnel"
(massive eye roll) to the State of Wyoming and they are worried about liability issues in taking home our
computers (still rolling eyes). We keep getting told that we are going to be teleworking soon but I'll
believe it when I see it! LOL

So good hearing from you! Miss you all lots!

Aaahhh! An email that works!! I’ll give you a dump on how we’re doing (short version: we’re fine) but
first I have a question… Can you give me the month and day of Alivia’s birthday? Since she’s now a
great-grand-niece of ours, she will get those funky bills for her birthday too, but I need to know WHEN
    to mail them!

    Now for the update:

All is well up here in the wild and wooly north. It’s much easier to “socially distance” ourselves in such
a sparsely-populated state! ?? We can easily keep to the 6-foot “social distancing” rule when either or
both of us goes to the grocery store… nowhere NEAR the shopping mobs we endured down south,
even the day before Thanksgiving! We both have 70% Purell (140 proof!) in our cars for use when
running what few errands we need to run. Our construction crew (yes, they’re still here, but working
on the planned “phase 2”) goes in and out via the lower level door and we hardly ever see them…. We
HEAR them a lot! ?? Closest social contact we had was when I tipped the AAA guy for jump-starting
our car Sunday (weak 4-year-old battery in Lynn’s Mazda finally gave up the ghost – had it replaced
Monday – even the chairs in the Sullivan Tire waiting Room were 6+ feet apart! I was the only one
    there).

Lynn’s been meeting up with her quilt groups (one up here, one down in Cambridge MA) via Skype –
she gave them a tour of her new quilt studio by walking around holding up her cellphone like she was
filming! ?? Seems to work well.

We became legal residents of Maine (“Mainiacs”) instead of Massachusetts (“Massholes”) on 30
August 2019; that’s when we registered the cars and got plates, got new driving licenses, and
registered to vote. The Maine house renovations weren’t done yet at that point in time, but the hassle
of trying to live in a “staged” house that was on the market down in MA was too much, so we left. We
rented two 8x8x16-foot PODs™ based on company estimates of needed space, and hired movers to
pack them, which they did on the 22nd & 25th of August (long and tearful story). They under-
estimated. The PODs™ could only hold about 2/3rds of what we wanted packed (not counting the
“staging” furniture to be left behind for a while). The packed PODs™ got hauled up to Portland ME and
put in storage while the Maine contractors finished the house.

The Maine house “renovations” were substantial, including a new 3-bay garage (2 bays for cars, one
bay for a woodworking shop and yard-tool storage area), and a whole 2nd floor on the garage (20’x24’)
that was destined to be Lynn’s quilt studio, complete with half bath (should be called a “no bath;”
toilet, sink, and “no bath!”), but we used it initially as a studio apartment, with our bed and a coffee
pot and a microwave. Sort of like indoor camping!

We moved into the main Maine house in early October. The PODs™ were delivered 23 October and
emptied the next day. As expected, a lot of the “stuff” hadn’t found a house location in our heads yet,
so it went into the garage to be dealt with “later.” I’m still dealing with those boxes. The Woburn
house sold on 25 November, so a few days before that I showed up with a crew of Maine movers
(cheaper, and a LOT nicer!) and a couple of U-Haul trucks to retrieve all the stuff left behind.

So that’s our last 9 months in a nutshell. We don’t miss the old house at all. Spring is coming so as the
snow melts the ragged construction site lack-of-landscaping reappears and reminds us we’re not done
yet! We’re also having the same construction crew finish off the basement as a guest “suite” with a
“full” bath (no mis-labeled “half-bath” here! ?? ) and with its own entrance. No kitchenette or
anything, though. That would kick us into a different assessment bracket. It’ll have a queen bed AND a
set of bunk beds (the same ones you and Steph slept in when you visited in Woburn!) for any families
that wander up into Maine (hint hint).

    Retirement is fun!

My biggest time sink has been the 2020 taxes… probably shouldn’t have A) retired, B) changed
residence states, C) sold a house, and D) switched retirement/brokerage firms all in the same year! My
GOD was that complicated! Too late now! My stack of “to-be-filed” forms ran for 48 pages (federal,
and TWO states)! Hindsight is always 20/20.

Physical location of our new abode is: https://goo.gl/maps/z4LZ8HpAuT2rf83LA

In usual overkill fashion, I documented the 2-year construction saga in words and pictures on the
    Maine House web site: http://ballotbox.familytreehouse.net/changes.html

Take care! Say HI to everyone for us – even those we haven’t met yet!

    Gene (& Lynn)

Old fart great-uncle Gene here, testing the email addressbook that transferred over to my new
computer. “Thinning the email address herd,” so to speak.

Please reply if you get this so I know which email address is good.
