- Birth: 1625, Scotland
Death: Jan. 27, 1718
William Munroe, son of Robert of Aldre, b. 1625, Scotland; m. (1) Martha George by whom he had 4 children, (2) Mary Ball by whom he had 9 more children, (3) Elizaberth Johnson; made freeman 1690. He came to America at age 27 as a Scots "prisoner" - he was taken prisoner by Cromwell's army at the Battle of Worcester Sept. 3, 1651, and shipped to America on the John and Sarah Nov. 11, 1651. Around 1660, he had land granted to him on the north border near Woburn. That part of town has been known from an early period as "Scotland".
