Subject: RE: [McGRATH Genealogy] Please moderate: "Irish Is In My Blood"
Hi Gerry,
Thanks for the family welcome. Your Godmother must have been my aunt Eileen. She was the only unmarried sister. I am the daughter of James. I also have a sister Eileen; my three brothers (James, Richard, Kenneth) have passed away. I just started on the genealogy journey and am so glad I found your family tree website. I found a birth certificate record for my grandmother on-line. It says her name was Johana Carroll and she was born in Bally kealy, County Kerry (parents Patrick Carroll and Johana McGrath Carroll, DOB 7 May 1877). It must be a part of Ardfert. Is there a church in Ardfert where I can get her baptismal certificate? Do you have information on Johana/Hannah's sisters? Do you know of Mary Carroll Halleran of Upper Oakpark, Tralee? She is a cousin.
I am going to Ireland on Friday with my daughter, her husband, and my son. It will be my family's first visit. My father's family is from County Cork (Clonakilty). Did you go to the National Library in Dublin to look up info for your family tree? If so, did you need an appointment?
Any tips on what not to miss (sites, restaurants, activities) would be greatly appreciated. I found out 2 weeks ago that we were going to Ireland on 22 Feb. YIKES! We plan to go to County Kerry and Cork, Dublin, and perhaps the Giant Causeway (son-in law request). I think we'll be driving most of the time.
This is very exciting to know that I am part of the McGrath family. Thank you so much for your quick reply.
