    ---------------------------------------------
Roy C. Johnson, 80, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, June 28, 2003.

Roy was born to Annie Sigridson Johnson and Wallace Johnson on his family ranch in Duxby, Minn., on May 6, 1923. He attended a country grade school and graduated in 1942 from high school in Badger, Minn.

Prior to joining the United States Navy, Roy worked one summer in the CCC camps in northern Minnesota. He served in the Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He was a lifeguard and later a visual communication signalman on the USS Barricade mine sweeper in and around Guam.

Roy married Sarah Jane Walsh in Badger on April 12, 1948. They moved to International Falls in 1952, where he worked for Mando and Boise paper mills for 33 years.

Surviving Roy is his beloved wife, friend and golf partner, Sarah. In April of this year they had been married 55 years. He will be sadly missed by his children, Lorella (Donald) Fulton, Mona "Bunnie" (Craig) Hunter, Steve (Liz) Johnson and Arlys (Sam) Maxwell. Also missing Roy will be his grandchildren, Michelle (Robert) Misner, Valerie Fulton, Joseph Fulton, Stephanie Johnson, Ross Johnson, Samuel Maxwell and Jack Maxwell; and his great-grandchildren, Michael, Shawna and Emma Misner. Also surviving Roy is his brother, Russell Johnson of the Falls.

Preceding Roy in death were his parents; his brothers, Cecil, Emil, Ted, Walter, Wilford and Edmond; and his sisters, Myrtle, Mabel, Nellie, Muriel, Lillian, Earlyce and Donna.

In his early years Roy enjoyed gardening, blueberry picking, fishing and camping with his family. His hobbies included fixing bikes, leather work, original Christmas displays and card playing with friends. In later years he was passionate about golfing, curling, Christmas blueberry picking, spending time with his family and friends, and his sobriety of 28 years.

Much could be said about Roy. He was a natural, unassuming, honorable, kind, easygoing and loving man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Interment will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
